The IAC – Bals is the first factory created by IAC Company in Romania. In Europe, there are 28 factories in ten countries and 73 all over the world. IAC could be considered a young group, because the business started in 2006.
IAC has 19.000 employees all over the world, and only 6000 in Europe. The company produces all sorts of systems of doors, dashboards, consoles and control systems , acoustic systems of flooring and others. IAC- Balş will produce automotive components for Ford, Audi, Bentley, BMW, DAF, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Land Rover, MAN, Mercedes, Mini Cooper, Nissan, Opel, Porsche, Renault, Renault Trucks, Rolls Royce, Saab, Scania, Skoda, Smart, Suzuki, Toyota, Volkswagen, Volvo and others.
The recruitment
“We have been waiting for the construction of this factory for 70 years and I am happy because we have managed to accomplish this important project. We needed IAC here, in Balş, for the development of this town by creating new working places. I am sure that IAC’s coming is just the beginning, because certainly many other smaller investors will come here and become interested in investing in Bals”, said the mayor of Balş, Mădălin Teodosescu.
Those 400 employees will be selected from 2000 interwievs. Not only the people who live in Bals can apply for these jobs, but also people from other towns. This is the reason why, The president of Dolj County Council, Ion Prioteasa was in Bals yesterday promised that the University from Craiova will provide specialists for IAC.
Fiona Jonasson, the vice-president of Human Resources in Europe announced that “for the beginning, in Balş we need an administrator, an engineer, an SQA engineer and a technician for the Quality Department, a process engineer for the Technic Department, a mercelog, a production planner for the Logistics Department and a head-change for the Production Department”.
Pat Salter, the Executive President for European IAC Operations announced that “in the future, the employees will go to training courses in Romania and if it is needed, abroad. We chose Balş for many reasons, one of them being the qualities of the people who live here .The geographical position of Balş was very important in taking the decision, because that town is not so far from Craiova Ford Factory, and all we produce could be easily damaged if is transported on long distances”.

Lots of people at the event
At the “point zero of moment” of the IAC factory from Balş, a lot of local and county authorities were present among which the president of Olt County Council Paul Stănescu, Dolj County Council, Ion Prioteasa, Olt County prefect Leonid Moisiu, Balş deputy Valeriu Steriu, the mayor of Balş, Mădălin Teodosescu, vice-mayor Cornelia Smarandache, and many others.
“What happends today here is a great achievement not only for Bals but also for the county and similar projects should be developed in other towns. This is, in my opinion, one of the greatest projects in this county after 1989. I am excited because irrespective of the political affiliation of the authorities in Bals, they did together something very useful for the town”, said the president of CC Olt, Paul Stănescu.
IAC company was represented by the Executive President for European IAC Operations Pat Salter, vice-president of Human Resources in Europe Fiona Jonasson, the vice-president for Central and East Europe Operations Maurits Willaert and the IAC consultant and Ford Romania member, Nadia Crişan.
Historical moment. Gazeta Nouă, to the future with „Time capsule”
Fiona Jonasson and the mayor of Balş, Mădălin Teodosescu marked the opening ceremony of the construction of the factory in a symbolic way.The president Pat Salter and the mayor of Balş put in a hole made in the ground the „time capsule”, a cylindric tube which contains current Romanian money, information about IAC and also a Gazeta Nouă newspaper, printed on 23rd February, fact that we consider as a privilege. The time capsule could be reopened after many years by the next IAC leaders.
